Maintenance Marble/Limestone!
The marble and limestone families generally covers the widest range of natural stones available and are less to damage and staining than granite. They require regular maintenance to protect the finish and guidelines are outlined below.
In all cases, be sure to test out on a small unobtrusive area first. There are no absolutes with natural materials. Marble and limestone are reactive with acids which should not be used under any circumstances.
General dirt and detritus should be removed with brushing. If dirt becomes ingrained, the use of light hand-scrubbing can be undertaken, ensuring scratching does not occur. Ensure all soap is removed from the surface on completion but it is recommended a soap-free detergent is used. DO NOT USE scouring creams of solution. This causes of specific issues such as bird-fouling and water damage should be addressed along with rectification of the consequences.
Spills should be soaked up using absorbent cloths as soon as possible. Do not spread the spill. Then use a detergent in warm water to remove the remainder. Steam cleaning may be used to remove stubborn stains.
